Tim McIsaac's J-Say Story

I am just completing a thesis for a Master's degree in which I undertook qualitative research.

I interviewed 16 research participants.  I believe the total length of all the interviews was over 20 hours.

Because it was qualitative, each interview had to be transcribed.  I used a Victor Reader Stream from Human Ware Canada, to record the interviews which were done over the telephone using a speaker phone.

I had volunteers to participate in my research from all over North America.

I had a splitter connected to both my computer and the Victor Reader Stream so that I could hear both JAWS and the recording of my interviews at the same time.

Using J-say, I was able to dictate the interviews verbatim into Microsoft word files so that I could analyze the data in its entirety later.

I have documented this procedure in the methodology for my thesis.

My point is that the savings with respect to both financial expense and time were extremely significant as a direct result of the ability I had to perform the transcription myself; quite quickly, I might add.

I have just purchased a new computer with an I5 processor and 8 gigabytes of RAM and am looking forward with great anticipation, to using J-say 9 and Dragon Version 11.
